Are you looking to travel to Australia for a particular project? There’s no need to go through the lengthy work visa process. Instead, you can avail the Subclass 400 Visa, which allows skilled individuals to enter Australia for short-term, highly specialised work. These visas are usually granted for less than three months but can be given for up to six months in exceptional circumstances.
What can you do with subclass 400 Visa?
The Subclass 400 Visa allows the holder to work in Australia for a limited time on a highly specialised basis. Under certain conditions, the visa holder may engage in an activity or work related to Australia’s interests. An application for a subclass 400 visa may also include family members.
Who is eligible for the Subclass 400 Visa?
This Visa is available to highly skilled workers in Australia with a short-term work interest. As part of the documentation required, a letter of support from an Australian business is usually needed for any 400 visa application. To apply for this Visa, you must be outside of Australia.
The subclass 400 visa has two eligibility streams:
01. The Highly Sophisticated Work Stream: It must be demonstrated that the work in question is highly specialised and that the applicant possesses the necessary skills. The work must not be continuous, meaning it can be completed within three months.
Where there is a strong business case, a stay of up to 6 months may be considered. Businesses must note that employees cannot be “rotated” through the same position. If the work requires filling in for more than six months, you should consider a TSS visa.
Pro Tip: With a few exceptions, work in the entertainment industry is specifically excluded from the 400 subclass.
02. Stream of Interests for Australia:
Typically, this would entail demonstrating compelling circumstances affecting Australia’s interests, such as:
a. Major catastrophes or emergencies, or
b. The implications for Australia’s diplomatic, trade, and business interests, or
c. Significant benefit as a result of the individual’s contribution.
How can you get a Subclass 400 Visa?
A subclass 400 visa application does not require sponsorship or nomination. Applicants must be in good health and character and be able to show that they have enough money to support themselves in Australia.
There is no upper age limit for this visa type, and the application must be submitted electronically. As mentioned above, when applying for this Visa, you must be outside of Australia.
